One of the best things about working in the lifting and handling industry is the wide range of jobs we encounter from one day to the next. For example, the team at SafetyLiftinGear's Plymouth depot recently helped one of our valued customers to prepare for a sea voyage by inspecting their ship's on-board lifting equipment.

At around five o'clock on Thursday 8th April, our Plymouth office received a phone call asking us to attend the vessel Pacific Constructor the following morning. The ship was moored nearby at Millbay Docks, and its register of lifting equipment and loose lifting tackle needed a thorough inspection before the vessel set sail on Saturday 10th April.

Of course we obliged - Danny, our lifting equipment inspector, was sent down to the docks, where he spent the day inspecting all of the vessel's lifting equipment. He made sure that everything was LOLER compliant and safe to use.

About the vessel

Pacific Constructor is a sub-sea multi-purpose vessel that's best known for being part of the Ocean Infinity fleet.

Back in 2018, the Ocean Infinity fleet spent 90 days at sea searching for the wreckage of the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 (MH370). Their ships were also involved in the search for the Argentinian submarine ARA San Juan.

If you have any equipment that needs to be inspected, the SafetyLiftinGear team can help. We are qualified to inspect a wide range of lifting and handling products to ensure that they are safe to use - contact us today to discuss your requirements!

Spreader Beams

Our range of modular spreader beams is another effective and efficient lifting solution when it comes to lifting extremely heavy loads. They work to eliminate the horizontal forces that are created during the lifting process by producing a mainly compressive force which is distributed across the length of the beam that is attached to the load that you are lifting. Our spreader beams can lift loads of up to 70 tonnes and are adjustable when it comes to their length, making them an extremely versatile piece of lifting equipment!

Custom lifting sling

Here at SafetyLiftinGear, we pride ourselves not just on our wide range of high-quality lifting equipment but on our ability to provide bespoke lifting solutions for virtually any job.

We recently received an enquiry from R Turner Loft Conversions, a team of contractors based in Dorset. Specialising as they do in loft conversions, they frequently work at height, and they needed an easy way to lift materials such as roof tiles, OSB, plasterboard, etc.

Custom sling in use

We'll let Rick from R Turner Loft Conversions tell the rest of the story:

"We are a small team, and we have been struggling over the years to lift some materials up a ladder, so we decided to purchase a decent hoist.

"I decided that I required 4 slings with a sling hook on each end. I searched the Internet and ended up speaking to James Bertham at SafetyLiftinGear.

"I sent James a couple of rough sketches of what I was trying to achieve and how I intended to use the slings. James supplied me with the correct tailor-made strops, and my simple idea worked perfectly.

"Thanks very much for supplying these custom lifting slings."

If you need a tailor-made solution for a troublesome task, call SafetyLiftinGear on 0117 9381 600 to discuss your requirements with one of our heavy lifting experts. You can also email sales@safetyliftingear.com.
