Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this harness kit suitable for cherry pickers and MEWPs?
Yes. The kit is designed for restraint use in boom-type MEWPs, including cherry pickers and access platforms. IPAF recommends using a lanyard short enough to keep the wearer restrained within the platform.
- Is this a restraint kit or a fall-arrest kit?
This configuration is intended as a restraint kit. The lanyard should be shortened so the user cannot reach a position where a fall could occur. The LB100 lanyard must not be used by itself to arrest a fall because it does not include an energy absorber.
- What is included in the harness kit?
The kit includes:
- G-Force P10 full-body harness conforming to EN 361
- Adjustable LB100 12mm polyester kernmantle rope lanyard conforming to EN 354 and EN 358
- AZ011 steel screw-lock karabiner conforming to EN 362
The lanyard has a maximum length of 2 metres and the component documentation specifies a maximum rated user weight of 140kg.
- Where should the restraint lanyard be attached?
Attach the harness end to the rear dorsal attachment point marked A and connect the karabiner to the designated anchor point inside the platform. Adjust the lanyard so it is shorter than the distance between the anchor point and the area where a fall could occur.
- How often should the harness kit be inspected?
Carry out a visual pre-use inspection before every use. A recorded periodic inspection must be completed by a competent person at least once every 12 months, or more frequently in demanding environments. The harness has a maximum lifespan of 10 years from manufacture, but it must be withdrawn sooner if damaged, involved in a fall or if there is any doubt about its condition.
- Is the certification valid for 12 months?
The kit is supplied with a Declaration of Conformity confirming that its components meet the relevant safety standards. The Declaration of Conformity does not expire after 12 months. However, the harness, lanyard and connector must undergo a recorded periodic inspection by a competent person at least every 12 months from the date they are first put into use. More frequent inspections may be required depending on usage and the working environment.
