Chain Blocks

Chain blocks, also known as manual chain hoists or block and tackle systems, are reliable lifting devices designed for raising and lowering heavy loads using manual effort. These hoists are widely used across construction, engineering, workshops and industrial environments where controlled lifting is required without the need for powered equipment.

Our range of manual chain blocks is designed to provide dependable lifting performance while remaining lightweight, compact and easy to transport. Each hoist uses a geared mechanism that allows operators to lift substantial loads safely with minimal physical effort.

SafetyLiftinGear supplies chain block hoists with a range of Working Load Limits (WLL) and lifting heights to suit different lifting applications. All chain blocks are manufactured and tested in accordance with EN 13157 for manually operated lifting equipment.

What Is a Chain Block?

A chain block, also known as a manual chain hoist, is a mechanical lifting device used to raise or lower heavy loads by pulling a hand chain. The internal gear and pulley system multiplies the operator’s input force, allowing significantly heavier loads to be lifted than would otherwise be possible manually.

Chain blocks are commonly used in construction, workshops, warehouses, engineering facilities and maintenance operations where reliable manual lifting equipment is required.

Typical uses include:

  • Lifting machinery or heavy components
  • Positioning equipment during installation
  • Supporting loads during maintenance work
  • General workshop and industrial lifting tasks

Chain block hoists supplied by SafetyLiftinGear are manufactured and tested in accordance with BS EN 13157 for manually operated lifting equipment. When used correctly and inspected regularly, they can support safe lifting operations in line with LOLER and PUWER workplace equipment regulations.
