Manual Chain Hoist FAQs

What is a manual chain hoist used for?

Manual chain hoists are used for lifting and lowering loads of varying weights and sizes. They are powered by manual force and work by two gears moving within the chain hoist housing. When one gear moves, the other moves to create a continuous loop.

It’s worth noting that manual chain hoists are only designed for hoisting and lowering loads, and not for pulling applications.

What is the difference between manual and electric chain hoists?

The biggest difference between manual chain hoists and electric chain hoists is speed of operation. Manual chain hoists are operated by hand so require an operator exerting manual force, so they’re only as effective as the person operating them.

Electric chain hoists offer a more precise speed control, as the electric mechanism automatically hoists and lowers loads at a consistent rate.

That being said, there are jobs that would benefit more from a manual chain hoist over an electric one. For example, in smaller jobs where a more precise move is required.
