In 2008, Richard Noble and Andy Green announced their plans to smash the World Land Speed Record, while, at the same time inspiring the next generation to become enthusiastic about mathematics, engineering and science.
Undoubtedly, the BLOODHOUND SSC is one of the most complex cars created. It states on their websites, that when the car is completed it will comprise of over 3,500 parts, many of which have been designed specifically for the BLOODHOUND SSC, including unique engines designed by Jaguar and Bristol’s own Rolls-Royce.
Inside the BLOODHOUND SSC you will find a EUROJET EJ200 jet engine which will supply the car with only half of its thrust! A Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) in the form of a Jaguar Supercharged V8 Engine. This will be used to supply 800 litres of high test peroxide to the rocket in just 20 seconds! And finally, the rocket engine, to accelerate the car to 1000 mph the rocket engine combined with the jet engine will provide a thrust of 212kN.
If you would like to go and see the car for yourself, The BLOODHOUND project are currently accepting bookings for their Rocket car experience workshops held during the Easter holidays, making a fun and education day for your children. Click here to read more.
It is a truly amazing project, one which we at SafetyLiftinGear are proud to help by providing lifting and material handling equipment.
When it comes to purchasing lifting equipment it is tempting to purchase second hand lifting gear to help cut your company costs. While it is understandable why many companies would chose to invest in second hand lifting equipment because it is a lot cheaper than buying brand new equipment, it is not something that we at SafetyLiftinGear recommend.
Even though there is a great deal of reputable second hand lifting equipment dealers out there, there are also a lot of deals who handle substandard equipment. This could mean that you may end up with some untested, unsuitable and above all else, unsafe lifting equipment. This could end up causing damage to machinery or fatal injuries if the equipment fails.
Here at SafetyLiftinGear we strongly recommend you either buy brand new lifting equipment or hire your lifting gear from a reputable company:

Recently there has been an influx of daredevils taking ridiculous safety risks and climbing high infrastructures with no safety equipment to protect them if they slip and fall.
In Australia, a man has been charged with trespassing after he scaled a 12 story construction crane. The 20-year-old can be seen dangerously walking across the arm of the crane. After some negotiation the police managed to get the man off the crane and took him to hospital because he seemed to be very disorientated after his climb.
Again, a daredevil in Australia, climbed up an 80 meter tower with no safety equipment. Half way through the climb the daredevil seems to be having some second thoughts about his climb as the tower becomes extremely rusty. However, he continues his climb with complete disregard to his safety, and gets more confident, taking the time to turn his camera around and address his video’s audience.
Reading these daredevil stories and watching their videos always make us feel uneasy. These structures are not designed to be climbed by non-professionals who are not wearing the correct safety equipment. All it takes is for someone to lose their footing on a rusty metal pole causing them to fall from an extreme height.
A fall from a relatively low height can cause serious injury to a person, so if you are climbing a structure 80 meters above ground with no safety equipment, there is a very slim chance that you will survive if you slip.
We know that a lot of our customers regularly work at height, and so we would just like to take a minute to remind you not to take on any work at height if you don’t have the correct safety equipment at your disposal. Using safety harnesses and fall arrest blocks can mean the difference between life and death, so please make sure you are using the correct safety equipment.
Here, at SafetyLiftinGear we are proud to stock a truly comprehensive range of specialist safety harnesses from basic safety harnesses through to the more specialist rope access and insulated harnesses specially designed for electricians. If are confident that we will have the exact safety harness that you require, however if you cant find the harness you are looking for please contact us on 0808 123 6969 or email us at sales@safteyliftingear.com.
