The 3 most common types of ratchet strap are: claw hook ratchet straps, rave hook ratchet straps and endless ratchet straps.
Ratchet straps are great for securing your load before you hit the road, but using the wrong kind of ratchet lashing can have disastrous – even deadly – consequences.
Watch the video below for a quick explainer from Safety Liftin Gear's load restraint expert, or read on to learn more about the different ratchet strap types we offer.
Claw Hook Ratchet Straps
ALSO KNOWN AS: J-Hook Ratchet Straps
A claw hook looks like this:

This type of hook should only ever be attached to a load ring or lashing point. Do not hook this type of ratchet strap directly to your vehicle's chassis as this will put too much tension on the hook, which can cause it to bend and potentially even break.
Rave Hook Ratchet Straps
ALSO KNOWN AS: Chassis Hook Ratchet Straps
Here's what rave hooks look like:

Rave hooks are sometimes called chassis hooks, and as that name suggests, they're designed to be hooked directly onto your vehicle's side rail or chassis.
Endless Ratchet Straps
Unlike the other two ratchet strap types we've already covered, endless ratchet straps don't terminate in a hook. They look like this:

It's unfortunately quite common for people to take the two ends of a claw hook ratchet strap and hook them together so as to create a complete loop. This practice should be avoided because the hooks aren't designed to be used in this way. Instead, you can use an endless lashing strap to create that continuous loop around your cargo.
