Proof Load Testing

Proof Load Testing

Proof load testing

Here at SafetyLiftinGear, we offer an in-house proof load testing service to help verify the strength of lifting and load-bearing equipment before use.

For example, we were recently asked to carry out proof testing on a set of custom fabricated trestles. Each trestle set had a safe working load (SWL) of 4 tonnes per pair, and our team proof load tested them to 5 tonnes using test weights.

This means the trestles were tested at 25% above their stated SWL, in line with our internal testing procedures and quality standards.

What Is Proof Load Testing?

A proof load test is used to check that lifting gear and load-bearing equipment can perform as intended under controlled conditions before being put into service. In many cases, the test involves applying a load that exceeds the item's SWL or working load limit to help verify its strength, suitability and integrity.

For this particular job, our engineers used certified test weights to apply the required proof load to the trestles, checking them under controlled conditions to ensure their readiness for real-world use.

Proof Testing Completed In-House

Carrying out load testing in-house gives our team close control over the process. It also allows us to apply our own quality procedures and ensure the test is completed carefully, consistently and safely.

This type of proof load testing is especially useful for fabricated items, bespoke equipment and other load-bearing structures where performance needs to be verified before use.
