Working as a rigger in the live entertainment industry often means working at height. Whether they're setting up lighting rigs, building stage sets, or dismantling everything after the show has finished, event rigging professionals spend a lot of time far above the ground.

This means that height safety is naturally a very important consideration in this line of work. Riggers routinely rely on safety harnesses and other types of fall prevention equipment while working - after all, a single slip can result in severe injury or even death when you're that high up, so it's important to have these safety measures in place.

But it's not just the workers themselves who are at risk of falling. If you were to drop a tool - such as a spanner or a torch - from the top of a very tall lighting rig, the dropped item could well cause a lot of damage upon reaching the ground (especially if someone happened to be standing in its way).

How to prevent tools from falling

However, just as a rigger will usually wear a harness when working at height, there are products you can buy to protect your tools and equipment from falls as well. Here at SafetyLiftinGear, we stock a wide range of equipment lanyards that can be used to attach all kinds of different tools to your person when working at height.

Most of our equipment lanyards are compatible with a wide range of tools (such as spanners, hammers, screwdrivers, et cetera). However, some of the products in our tool lanyard range are specifically designed for one tool in particular:
Not only do our equipment lanyards make the workplace a safer environment for everyone, they are also very handy - it's very inconvenient when you're working at height and you have to stop and go down to fetch the spanner you just dropped!

Roller Crowbar

Quite often, the most difficult of transporting a heavy object isn't lifting and moving it - which is easy enough if you've got the right material handling equipment - but getting underneath the object in the first place. It's all well and good having a forklift or a pallet truck, put if the load you're moving don't have much in the way of ground clearance, you'll have to manually load the goods onto the forks yourself. And that can be a pain in more ways than one.

Fortunately, our material handling range contains a straightforward solution to this common problem: roller crowbars!

Roller Crowbars

These wheeled crowbars are easy to manoeuvre around the warehouse, and they can get in underneath loads with even the most minimal ground clearance. Once that's done, you can simply wheel your low-to-the-ground goods to wherever they need to be.

But the roller crowbar isn't the only handy item in this section of our website! We also stock the Roller Pinch Bar (compact and lightweight - also available to hire).

Working at height can be very dangerous, and if there's one profession that guarantees a steady stream of high-up work, it's tree surgery. Tree surgeons (also known as arborists) are required to ascend tall trees on a daily basis, and it's important for these workers and their employers to do everything possible to minimise the risk of a fall.

We at SafetyLiftinGear.com consider ourselves specialists in the field of height safety, and sure enough, we sell a range of height safety products that are especially perfect for tree surgeons and the work they do.

Tree Surgeon Equipment

Our selection of tree surgeon equipment is designed to help arborists climb trees and go about their work safely. Here's a quick look at some of the products currently available to buy or hire from SafetyLiftinGear.com:

Safety Harnesses

A strong safety harness is perhaps the most important item for anyone who works at height. To help prevent you / your workers from falling to the ground during a job, we offer an assortment of different harnesses that are ideally suited to tree surgery.

Climbing Accessories

We also stock a variety of ascenders, descenders, and pulley products to help you get up and down trees with minimal difficulty.

Tool Lanyards & Hooks

These products are designed to prevent tools and other items from falling to the ground while you're busy working. A tool dropped from height can cause serious injuries to anyone who might be standing beneath you, so it's a good idea to use hooks and lanyards to keep everything attached to your person.

As any outdoor worker will know, the winter elements bring a whole new set of health and safety challenges to the work site. Wind, rain and frosty spells combine to make the task of maintaining safe conditions even more challenging, which means that additional measures must be taken in order to keep employees safe and well.

One of the most vulnerable and exposed groups during this time, are those who work at height, who have to manage the existing risks and challenges of their operations, with additional inconveniences from the poor conditions. For this reason, we stock specialised jacket safety harnesses with this exact problem in mind, providing workers with the same level of reliable fall protection, while also keeping them warm and dry.
