Understanding Wire Rope Pulling Machines

A wire rope pulling machine, also called a wire rope winch or wire rope hoist, is a compact and lightweight manual hoist that can be used for lifting, pulling and securing loads.

Wire rope pulling machines work by using a series of mechanical jaws to grip and pull the wire rope. The operator can use the forwards and backwards levers to transfer most of the effort to these jaws, which then grip the rope and pull it along, either lifting or lowering the attached load.

How to Operate a Wire Rope Pulling Machine

1. Tilt the machine onto its end.
   
   
2. Push the release handle on top of the hoist into a forward position until you hear the jaws open.
   
   
3. Push the wire rope through the jaws until you can see it from the other side.
   
   
4. Pull as much rope as you need and then lock the jaws by pushing the release handle into a backwards position.
   
   
5. The first lever is for tensioning (or lifting) and the second lever is for releasing (or lowering).
   
   
6. Take the anchor pin out and attach a hook, shackle, sling or any other tool needed to connect the hoist to the anchor point.
   
   
7. Once you have finished using the hoist, tilt the machine back onto its end and pull the wire out by pushing the release lever into a frontward position.
   
   
8. After removal of the wire rope, push the release handle back to the backwards position so that the spring relaxes.
