Short answer: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is vital for minimising exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries, illnesses and infections.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) plays a crucial role in keeping people safe in environments where hazards are part of the job. From construction sites and factories to laboratories and hospitals, workers face risks that cannot always be eliminated through procedures alone. PPE acts as a last line of defence - reducing exposure to hazards that can cause injuries, infections and other long-term health issues.

Construction sites can be a hazardous places. It's always best to make sure you are properly dressed for your working environment, so if you work in construction, you should invest in the right construction PPE for the job you're doing.

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is equipment worn to protect oneself from health and safety risks, such as those that might be present on a construction site.

We stock an extensive range of personal protective equipment here at SafetyLiftinGear. Here are some examples of what we can supply:

Protective Headwear

On almost all construction sites, appropriate headwear must be worn to minimise the risk of injury (in compliance with the Personal Protective Equipment Regulations of 1992). There is a high likelihood of falling objects in construction environments, and by wearing the right PPE, you will be reducing your risk of a serious injury.

Ear Protection

When working in loud construction environments, ear defenders may be necessary to protect your ears from long-term damage. Loud bursts of noise can perforate the eardrum, and continuous loud noise can cause tinnitus (a continuous ringing or buzzing in the ears). The ear protectors that we stock at SafetyLiftinGear contain soft foam-filled cushions, which provide a seal against harmful noises.

Eye Protection

Construction sites can be dusty environments with a high risk of hazardous objects flying into workers' eyes. Protective PPE may be needed to protect the eyes from harm - debris in the eye can lead to scratches and infections, and in more severe cases, can lead to loss of sight. This is why eye protection is an essential part of construction PPE.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn by workers to protect themselves from potential hazards in the workplace. Workplaces which require physical labour especially need the different types of PPE to protect their workers. PPE protects a variety of different body parts from harm, all the way from eye protection to breathing apparatus. But with so many different products you may be wondering what are the different types of PPE.

So to help you out, we will be taking a look at what are the different types of PPE, what they do and why you need them.

PPE Ear Defenders

What it does:

PPE Ear Defenders protect your ears from the damaging effects of loud sounds.

Why you need them:

When working in a loud environment, such as construction work or drilling, ear protection is necessary to protect the inner linings of your ears. Damage from loud noises can rupture the eardrum or damage the bones in the middle ear. Tinnitus (a ringing in the ears) can also be caused by exposure to loud noises for an extended period of time. To protect yourself from these types of long term damage, PPE Ear Defenders are a necessity.

PPE Safety Goggles

What it does:

PPE Safety Goggles protect your eyes from debris and chemicals that may be in your work environment.

Why you need them:

If you find yourself working in an area which has a lot of dust or particles in the air, safety goggles are the safest and most efficient way to complete your job. Safety Goggles are also necessary when working in an environment with chemicals. Chemical substances in the eye can lead to chemical eye burn, and in worst case circumstances, the loss of sight.  This damage is easily avoided with the use of PPE Safety Goggles.

High Visibility PPE clothing

What it does:

High Vis PPE Clothing ensures you are as visible as possible to your colleagues, passers-by, and vehicles.

Why you need it:

High Vis PPE Clothing is necessary for those working in hazardous or poorly lit environments, such as a road or on construction sites. High Vis clothing typically has reflective bands sewn into them too, to increase the visibility during the day and night. When working on a road especially, High Vis PPE clothing will reflect the light from the car headlights and will make you clearly visible, preventing any road accidents.

PPE Multi-Gas Detector

What it does:

PPE Multi-Gas Detectors display what type and what percentage of gas is in any environment.

Why you need it:

PPE Multi-Gas Detectors are vital to any type of confined space work or any construction work involving pipes. Not only can a high concentration of different types of gas be physically damaging, it can also be extremely flammable. This is why a PPE Multi-Gas Detector is important to keep on hand in any environment in which you are unsure of the gas levels. This particular PPE Multi-Gas Detector also comes with audible and visible alarms to ensure you are completely aware of your environment.

PPE Emergency Escape Breathing Apparatus

What it does:

A PPE Emergency Escape Breathing Apparatus can provide you with air through the use of an inflatable air cushion and a half mask. This kit can supply you with air up to 10 minutes.

Why you need it:

If you find yourself in a dangerous environment without enough air, a PPE Emergency Escape Breathing Apparatus can provide you with those extra minutes you need to escape. This Breathing Apparatus will come in especially handy if you are working in confined areas or somewhere where there is a likelihood that you may get trapped.

Okay so now you know what are the different types of PPE are, but is this still not what you're looking for? We have a range of different types of PPE here. If you have any further enquires, feel free to contact us or call us on 0808 123 69 69.

Construction sites are very dangerous places to work, being surrounded by heavy machinery, noisy power tools, large trucks and Lorries, entering confined working spaces, or being in contact with potentially hazardous materials (Asbestos) chemicals and gases, can greatly increase the risk of accidents. So if you are working on, visiting or managing a building or construction site, you need to ensure that you and your staff are dressing appropriately.

We at SafetyLiftinGear, take Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) extremely seriously. Here is an example of the products that we stock in our specialist PPE section

Ear protection

When you are working in loud environments where you are exposed to loud noises it is important to take care of your hearing, prolonged exposure to loud noises can lead to noise related hearing loss, or tinnitus. You can protect yourself against noise by using our Ear defenders. Our ear defenders offer comfort and protection with a noise reduction rating up to 34dB.
Eye Protection
By law eye protection must be worn when you are in a hazardous area, if you are employing people to work on your site it is your responsibility to provide eye protection. When choosing eye protection it is important that they are comfortable, and that they are designed to protect you from the potential hazard such high speed flying metal particles, small stones, or chemical splashes. You will also need to consider if you are going to be using ear protection with them, or a respirator, as these items can affect how the glasses fit.

Here at SafetyLiftinGear our safety goggles have a soft, adjustable head strap to ensure that they are comfortable and can be used with your ear protection and respirators if needed. Click here to View.
Dust Masks
Every year people are dying because of prolonged exposure to hazardous substances while at work.  Dust masks help prevent the development of respiratory illnesses caused from the inhalation of hazardous substances while you are working. Many hazardous substances are fine dusts, smoke, gas and vapour, most of which you cannot see.
When you are choosing your dust mask, make sure it is suitable for the potential hazards you could be facing in your workplace.  Here at SafetyLiftinGear we stock a huge range of dust masks that will protect you from a range of hazardous substances, click here to view our comprehensive range.
