Round Sling Chart: What Do the Different Colours Mean?

When working in a high-stakes environment like a building site, factory, or warehouse, ensuring you’re using the correct equipment is essential. Over the years we’ve seen numerous advancements in technology, all designed to make life easier, faster, and safer when working.

Round slings, also sometimes referred to as crane slings or hoisting straps, are an all-purpose lifting tool that can be used to lift, transport, and manoeuvre a variety of different loads.

Round slings are a varied tool, available with working load limits (WLL) ranging from 1 tonne to 30 tonnes – no matter what load you’re lifting, you can find a suitable round sling suited to your needs!

With so many different variations of round slings available, how can you be sure that you’re using the right round sling for the task at hand?

If you’ve been browsing round slings, you may have noticed that they are available in a range of different colours – but what do these different round sling colours mean?

To make your life easier round slings come with a handy colour code, to help you quickly identify which sling you need for a job. Having a colour coded round sling is a great way to make tool selection faster, as well as making it easy to see which round sling is being used, even in the middle of a task.

Here at SafetyLiftinGear we’ve put together a handy round sling chart to help you quickly identify the lifting capacities of a round sling based on its colour.

As you can see from the round sling chart above, there are a number of different colours assigned to slings with different maximum weights. Orange round slings can handle anything from 10 tonnes to 30 tonnes, depending on the chosen strength.

The WLL can also vary depending on how the round sling is utilised. Using a basket lift can increase the WLL by up to 100%, whereas using a choke lift can decrease it.

If you’re on the hunt for a new round sling, SafetyLiftinGear supply a wide range of polyester round slings with a range of lifting limits, as well as a variety of accessories including round sling hooks.
