When you're transporting a large/heavy object, it's very important to ensure that your load is secure before setting off. Failing to secure your load will mean that it's at risk of falling off your vehicle, with potentially disastrous results - not only will the item in question be damaged by the fall, it may also cause a very serious accident involving other travellers and their vehicles.

1 x ratchet load binder (made of drop-forged steel, grab hooks attached)
1 x load binder grade chain (high-tensile steel)

These few items can be combined to create a load restraint system that's capable of holding even the heaviest items in place. Our most heavy-duty loadbinder kit is has a minimum breaking strength of 20,865kg (nearly 21 tonnes, or 46 thousand lbs), meaning that it can be used to keep even large vehicles and other super-heavy objects in place on the back of your truck.

Load Restraint Equipment: Which is the Right Solution for You?

As we've seen before, it's very important to ensure that all loads are secure when transporting goods over any distance. It's impossible to estimate how much damage has been caused by unsecured loads falling from moving vehicles, but the vast majority of that damage could almost certainly have been prevented through the proper use of good-quality load restraint equipment.

Today, we'd like to quickly introduce you to a few of our most popular load restraint options and explain where they might come in handy:

Ratchet Lashing Straps

These hard-wearing lashing straps are our most popular load restraint products. Consisting of a length of polyester webbing with a sturdy ratchet mechanism, they are suitable for securing a broad variety of different loads.

Cam Buckle Straps

Cam buckle straps are similar to ratchet lashing straps - they just have a cam buckle instead of the ratchet design. Our cam buckle products cost less than the ratchet straps, and they can sometimes be a better choice if you are transporting fragile / delicate goods.

Load Binder Kits

Load binders are a heavy-duty load restraint solution that use chains rather than polyester webbing to hold goods in place. Our load binder kits are ideal for transporting large machinery and other heavy items (if you don't wish to buy a full kit, you can purchase the load binder components individually here).

Ratcheting Cargo Bars

If you're transporting goods using a pick-up truck or similar vehicle, a cargo bar can act as a barrier to stop things sliding off the truck's load bed. Our ratcheting cargo bars can be adjusted, allowing them to fit a wide variety of different vehicles.

Premium 5 Tonne Ratchet Lashing Strap

This ratchet lashing strap has a minimum breaking strength of 5000kg, and is designed to keep heavy loads held securely during transit. The 50mm polyester webbing is highly shock absorbent, which means that it is ideal for protecting delicate items from harm. It also comes with a claw hook for easy attachment, and is available in a range of lengths from 4 to 20 metres.

1000kg Ratchet Lashing Strap

This strap is made of hard-wearing 25mm webbing, and has a minimum braking strength of 1000kg. it has chassis hook at either end for secure fastening, and is available in a choice of 4 or 6 metres. If you require this product in another length, we are able to provide these on a made-to-order basis.

2000kg MBS Ratchet Lashing Strap

Made of 50mm wide high-strength webbing, this industrial-quality ratchet strap provides safe and secure transportation for loads under the MBS of 2000kg. Also available on 4-6 metres, this strap can be tailored to suit your specific needs and requirements, and comes with claw hooks and a sturdy plated steel ratchet for a highly secure fastening.

When Load Restraint Goes Wrong

Before you hit the road, you should always use the appropriate load restraint equipment to ensure that whatever you're carrying stays put for the duration of the journey. This is particularly important for heavy loads, of course, but it applies to loads of all sizes over journeys of any length. Whether you're hauling a tonne of bricks from Land's End to John O'Groats or simply forklifting a few pallets to the other end of the warehouse, securing the load should always be your top priority.

Otherwise, you might end up like the motorists in these videos...

1. Shelves come loose from trailer

Everything seems fine in the first 15 seconds of this video...but then the flimsy length of tape that was barely keeping those shelves on the trailer broke, and it all went rather wrong. Again, kudos to the motorist who filmed this - not everyone would be able to get out of harm's way that quickly!

2. Boxes take a high-speed tumble

The text at the start of this video tells us that the camera's owner was doing 100 kph (roughly 62mph) when their fellow motorist lost their load, and this really illustrates the importance of using the right load restraint equipment. If your car hits something at more than 60mph, it doesn't really matter what that something is - it's going to do a lot of damage!

3. Mattresses go flying

We're not entirely sure how those two mattresses ended up in mid-air, but we're almost certain it could have been prevented if the owner had strapped them down properly!

4. Huge crate slides off lorry

Okay, now we're just lost for words. Do these people not think to secure their loads at all? Do they think that everything will just magically stay put?

If you don't want your load to end up on YouTube, make sure you secure it with the correct load restraint equipment. It will prevent damage and - more importantly - save lives!
