Today, we want to talk you through our selection of high-quality load arrestors from Globestock - these robust products are designed to make sure that heavy loads don't fall when being lifted, even if the load's primary support system fails.

How do they work?

Each G-Guard fall arrestor consists of a retractable safety line that works in a similar way to a seatbelt in a car. If a load drops suddenly whilst attached to this line, the load arrestor's fall protection brake will automatically kick in and prevent the load from crashing to the ground. The brake's shock-absorbent properties minimise the force of the load arrestor, protecting the load from damage and the user from injury.

Why should I use a load arrestor?

Back-up measures like these fall arrestors are important in case your lifting equipment suddenly fails while you are raising a heavy or valuable load. These safety lines will ensure that your load does not fall unexpectedly where, as we've already mentioned, it may cause damage, injury, or even worse.

Although you might not think you need a back-up load arrestor, you'll be thankful you purchased one when you're saving money later down the line. Many of our customers work with valuable equipment in theatres, in nuclear power stations, in building and home renovation etc.

Now, imagine you're trying to hoist a £10,000 chandelier, a centrepiece in someone's home. Your primary lifting device fails and glass shatters everywhere... Not only is this a huge safety risk, but it's also the type of precious load you or your clients may not be able to replace in the event of an accident. This is why it's important to have the right safety precautions in place!

How strong are SafetyLiftinGear's load arrestors?

We have a huge range of different G-Guard load arrestors to choose from, each with its own specifications and weight load limit. Let's take a look at some of the leading products in this range.

A full body harness is a harness designed to hold the wearer upright in the event of a fall from height. If worn correctly, a full body harness will distribute the energy generated during free-fall across the wearers' body evenly, reducing the potential for serious injury.

Full-body harnesses should be the first choice when it comes to working at height because they offer:

  • Freedom of movement for the worker to get his or her job done.
  • Support for all body parts including; hips, legs, chest and shoulders.

How are full body harnesses designed?

When looking at how full body harnesses are designed, there are a few common features that you can expect to see on any full body harness:

When should you wear a full body harness?

Before you carry out any work at height, you should always assess the potential risks. Unfortunately, falling from height is a common cause of injuries and fatalities in the workplace. It's important that you know when a full body harness is, or isn't required. Your employee should carry out a full risk assessment before you carry out any work at height, notifying you if a full body harness is required while you complete your tasks.

Your employer might ask you to wear a full body harness if:

  • You are working at height – The working at height regulations 2005 define working at height as “Work in any place, including a place at or below ground level, where a person could fall a distance liable to cause personal injury”.
  • You're trained and authorised to work at height.

Choosing the right full body harness

In situations where a fall from height is a serious risk, you don't want to be putting on any old harness and making your ascent. Choosing a full body harness that suits your weight and job requirements is paramount for your safety. Your full body harness should always:

  • Be easy to use and easy to adjust
  • Fit you properly
  • Be free from damage, wear or tear
  • Allow you to move freely and easily as you work

All of our full body harnesses can be found in our height safety range. We stock a variety of full body harnesses, including hi-viz full body harnessesfull body rescue harnesses and harnesses and lanyard rated to 140kgs. Give us a call on 0117 9381 600 if you have any questions.

A Doncaster based construction firm has been fined £10,000 and ordered to pay £803 in legal costs after one of their young workers suffered a serious fall.

The unnamed 18-year-old employee was working on the first floor of a house being built in West Butterwick, Scunthorpe. The worker was using a trowel to remove mortar from some breeze blocks when he stepped backwards and accidentally fell through an unguarded stairway. The injuries he sustained from the fall include; two fractured ribs and contusions.

The HSE investigated the incident and concluded that Trumax Building Ltd had not put the required safety precautions in place. Neither a proprietary guardrail system or traditional scaffold guardrails were used to prevent people from falling through the opening.

Trumax Building Ltd pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 6 (3) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005. The HSE Inspector who handled this case said:

'This incident could so easily have been avoided by simply carrying out the correct control measures and safe working practices, particularly to protect young and inexperienced workers. In this case, someone suffered serious injuries that could have been avoided by installing guardrails around the stairway opening to prevent workers from falling from height.'

Here at SafetyLiftinGear, we work tirelessly to provide the PPE and equipment required to keep workers safe while working at height. Our Height Safety category features a range of products that can ensure safety whether your line of work is construction, tree surgery, or any other profession.

Just when you thought we couldn't make your life at work any easier, we go and throw these new Loadsurfer pallet trucks into the mix! Choose either the semi or fully-electric option depending on your personal preferences. We've tried them both and we're certain they'll make your load moving tasks 100 times easier.

What makes these Loadsurfer pallet trucks different to other semi and fully-electric pallet trucks you've seen before?

  • Their maintenance-free 10Ah batteries - simply lift out and replace when you run out of charge (both run for around 3 hours).

  • Their compact design, perfect for use in confined spaces such as elevators.

  • Their excellent speed and efficiency.

Which one should you choose?

The semi-electric pallet truck is an excellent alternative to a hand pallet truck. However, if you will sometimes prefer a manual pallet truck this is a great option for you - it's the best of both worlds!

The manually operated forks can lift loads up to 115mm off the ground. If you're working on slopes of 5% or less with loads weighing up to 1800kg, this semi-electric pallet truck will tackle them no problem.

Semi Electric >

The fully-electric option is ideal if you find you never require a manual pallet truck to get the job done! Our fully-powered pallet truck will keep you on the move all day long.

It can shift loads weighing up to 1500kg up and down slopes with a 6% gradient (1% more than it's semi-electric counterpart). It can also travel an impressive 0.5km faster than the semi-electric when laden.

Fully Electric >

If you have any questions about either of our new Loadsurfer pallet trucks, don't hesitate to contact us. Both models are available to buy or hire depending on your needs.

I'm sure that lifting equipment isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the words 'tag line'. And while we could sit here all day and reel off popular tag lines like, I'm lovin' it and you're worth it, these aren't the kind of tag lines we're addressing today.

If you work with cranes or other lifting equipment, you might have come across these mysterious 'other' tag lines before. In a construction setting, tag lines are used to help steady heavy loads as they ascend into the air, preventing uncontrollable spinning and accidental damage. I know, it doesn't quite have the same ring to it, but work with me here.

The type of Crane Tag Lines that we currently offer are the TAGATTACH Grip Rope Tag Lines, designed to make steadying heavy or awkward loads simple! Each of our Crane Tag Lines is:

  • Anti-tangle
  • Anti-fray
  • Anti-knot
  • Anti-burn
  • Available in 3, 5, 7 or 10 metres.

As if this didn't make these tag lines appealing enough, they also feature a reflective strip which means they can be used in low light conditions, or during the night.

When you choose our Crane Tag Lines, you can forget having to worry about securing your load using (often unreliable) ropes and knots. Our Crane Tag Lines feature either a reliable quick attach and release lifting eye or a sturdy steel snap hook that makes the attachment job ten times easier!

Your load doesn't have a suitable attachment point? Not to worry, this is where our Rubberised Straps come into play. Simply secure the rubberised strap around your load and secure the Crane Tag Lines to your rubberised strap instead!

We really think that our new range of Crane Tag Lines and Rubberised Straps will fit right in with your existing lifting equipment! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us on 0117 9381 600.
