Industrial Lifting Clamps Infographic

Types & Uses

Industrial lifting clamps are used by many organisations across a variety of industries such as construction, engineering and shipping for a range of different applications. The type of lifting clamp used, however, will depend entirely on the nature and needs of the lifting operation. Here, we take a look at the different types of industrial lifting clamps available at SafetyLiftinGear and where you are likely to use them.

Beam Clamps

  • These clamps are mostly used for the lifting and suspending of heavy items such as steel beams
  • Beam clamps provide very high strength levels and can be attached to a variety of beams and similar objects
  • You will find beam clamps used most often in an industrial setting such as garages and factories
  • They are extremely useful in any setting that required heavy beam-type objects to be lifted safely

Girder Clamps

  • Girder clamps also attach to steel girders and beams
  • These are only used for vertical lifting and not horizontal type side loading
  • Girder clamps are typically found within heavy-duty industrial settings to clamp onto girders and similar items
  • The majority of models are fully adjustable and can be attached to girders of different sizes
  • Girder clamps are very easy to fit, do not require any specialist tools and low-maintenance

Plate Lifting Clamps

  • Plate lifting clamps allow both vertical and horizontal lifting
  • Ideal for lifting, moving and transferring metal plates and sheets
  • The clamp to metal plates through a biting motion and are often used in pairs for extra security
  • These are often used in heavy lifting industries such as manufacturing

Other Types of Specialist Lifting Clamps

These clamps represent the additional types of clamps that you are likely to find being used across industries for very specific lifting operations:

  • Board Clamps – These are commonly found on building sites for gripping and lifting items such as plasterboard, plastics, stone, wood and MDF.
  • Drum Lifting Clamps – These clamps are used to lift a variety of drums, including oil, chemical and sometimes beer drums.
  • Pipe Lifting Clamps – These clamps are typically used to lift, manoeuvre and lower pipes of a variety of materials into required positions.
  • Pile Pitching Clamps – These clamps are often used with shackles and rope to safely lift and remove piling from within the ground.
  • Rail Clamps – These specialist clamps are found within the rail industry and are used to lift and move individual pieces of rail track into the correct position.
  • Manhole Clamps – These clamps are specifically designed and used to lift manhole covers.

Lifting clamp with beam

We stock a wide range of lifting clamps here at SafetyLiftinGear; however, it's important to note that not all lifting clamps play the same role.

In fact, certain clamps are simply not suitable for some jobs, while others are tailor-made with a specific function in mind.

To help you get your head around the specifics, we've compiled this short list to help you get a firm grasp of the different types of lifting clamps we offer.

Beam clamp

Beam Clamps

Incredibly robust and versatile, these hard-wearing lifting clamps are more than capable of pulling their weight...and much more! With a maximum capacity of up 10 tonnes (check the specifications of your chosen product before purchasing), our beam clamps offer a reliable lifting solution that won't buckle under the pressure.

Plate clamp

Plate Clamps

Specifically designed for use with heavy steel plates, our plate lifting clamps provide a safe and secure method of lifting heavy metal sheets.

Heavy-duty plate lifting clamps come in three different categories:

  • Vertical Plate Clamps - Equipped with hardened steel jaws, our vertical plate clamps effectively lift steel plates from a horizontal position into a vertical position. We currently offer a variety of sizes, with weight limits ranging from 0.5 tonnes up to 5 tonnes.

  • Horizontal Plate Clamps - Supplied in pairs, these twin clamps allow you to lift steel plates while maintaining a horizontal position (when used with a 2 leg chain sling). Our horizontal clamps are currently available in 1.5 tone, 3 tonne and 5 tonne models.

  • Multi-Directional Clamps - While most lifting clamps are either vertical or horizontal, we also offer multi-directional clamps that cover both options. These include two suspension holes for either vertical or horizontal suspension.

Lifting Grabs, Lugs and Hooks

Certain lifting jobs may require the use of additional equipment to modify your lifting mechanism.

Block grabs, container lugs and pipe hooks can enable you to lift unconventional heavy-duty items that are otherwise awkward to manoeuvre.

Specialist Lifting Clamps

In addition to the products listed above, there are also a wide variety of specialist clamps created with one singular purpose in mind:

Ideal for non-metal objects, such as plasterboard, stone and wood. Commonly used in the construction industry.

Specialist clamp used for lifting oil and chemical drums, as well as other drum-shaped objects.

As the name suggests, this is a specialist clamp used for kerbstones.

These clamps are specifically designed to raise, transport and lay manhole covers.

Equipped with rope and shackles for easy release, these products provide a great solution for those looking to remove steel piling from the ground.

Designed for manoeuvring metal, concrete and plastic piping into position.

Unlike the other clamps in this section, pulling clamps are intended to position heavy loads prior to industrial application.

Ideal for the rail industry, these specialist clamps are used for lifting and positioning railway track into place.
